When you're talking lots online you need to see who's listening, right? Twitter's tricky to track though. Its not simple to see who's talking about you because Technorati doesnt follow it easily and there's no traffic analysis like with blogs.
What's worse, I'm blogging less since Twitter hit me. It is so addictive that it eats into your blogging time. But if you think of blogging as a broader thing, then twittering is making blogging bigger and better surely?
Technorati doesn't see it that way though. Technorati says blogs are tailing off. And even though it tracks my Twitter, it doesn't do it without me having to go in and manually "ping" it. It's so annoying. I only saw these three sites mentioning me after ages because of the blimmin pinging thingamy.
And that's why, if you were to ask me, blogging is tailing off. It's all down to terminology. If you took out the terminology and focused on the activity, and, of course, Technorati can't do that, you'd see blogging is exploding. Everyone is Facebooking, Twittering and Jaikuing. It doesn't count though, according to the rubbishest figures ever. The truth is that online conversations have never been louder.
Journo Mike Butcher asked me earlier this week why I thought blogging was tailing off, as Technorati's most recent stats suggest. I firmly contend that it is not. It's Technorati that's losing its grip.
