My day today started with a client going to a press briefing in London calling from a train which had stopped at Reading. The driver had said that no trains are entering London because of some kind of alert.
So the TV goes on - nothing. Then a search on Google News for "London" then "London Tube" then hit "most recent" and hey presto. There's been a power surge, train crash, some wounded, and some evacuated stations. So I called the client back and told her to stay on the train, as it would probably pass. It is a national press interview today after all. Been planning this for ages!
Then it all becomes very nasty. The story changes from power surge to reports of bombs. Then the TV catches up, and eye witness accounts tell of buses blown up, tens of people dead, and the entire tube and bus network shut.
Then emails come in from UK Press subscribers saying government offices are in lockdown, swindon and brighton train stations closed down too, mobile phone networks have apparently been turned off as they might be used to detonate bombs!?
Every minute that passes there are more reports of bombs found and train station closures. Any other bloggers have any idea of what's going on? Brighton and Swindon!!!!?????
