PR W**k - Gmail invite

Merry Christmas! Well, Google must be in good spirits as I've been given a bunch of Gmail invites and nobody I know needs them. Please leave a comment or email me if you want one (address is on top left of the screen).

Also, I read just before the break that I have been voted winner of "Best Blog" category in the PR W**k awards (Spin Bunny's bitter version of the real thing - lots of gossip and piss taking - a must read). Not sure if it's a good or a bad thing - have a read and make your own mind up - but top stuff none the less.

New PR blog

Have been reading up on PR blogs just now, and found some new ones. One in particular is the Auburn PR Blog is a group blog which plays host to the students taking Introduction to Public Relations (PRCM 3040) during Spring Semester 2005 at Auburn University, Alabama

Financial Times feature on corporate blogs

Today's edition of the FT has a good feature on corporate blogs by Rob Mitchell. Blogs are the new craze apparently. It mentions Sun's 650 sanctioned corporate blogs, Microsoft's Robert Scoble (Scobleizer) and Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein's 120 internal blogs. There is also a feature on blogs and advertising coming up on Tuesday 4th January in the FT.

What does Chav stand for?

This morning's Daily Telegraph carries a story on the front page about Chavs. They reckon the word chav stands for Cheltenham Average. I was reliably informed that chav stood for Council House And Violent? The Mayor of Cheltenham and the Principal of Cheltenham College didn't seem too happy when interviewed for the story in the Telegraph. V funny.

Technology PR the fastest growing market sector

Hooray! Technology PR is the fastest growing market sector for the global PR industry, according to the latest survey from the International Comms Consultancy Organisation (ICCO). Tech PR for the purposes of this study includes telecoms.

BBC job cuts - the inside take from a senior BBC employee blog

Footnote: My old uni mate Memento (Geraint Todd) has just put his website online. Pity he hasn't got any photos of our holiday in Greece! Now that would have been funny.

FT blog viewpoint by Alan Cane

Today's FT contains a viewpoint column by Alan Cane focusing on the impact of blogging on traditional journalism. "Blogging ushers in a new form of journalistic coverage", Cane says. The article is titled: "Big Media is big enough for blogs". It explains how blogs work, why they work well, and what impact they will have. Cane interviews Dan Gillmor, whose book is is promoted in the article, and concludes that bloggers can draw together more information faster than orthodox reporters.

It's great to see the FT's audience being addressed in this way on this topic.
